Junco met Masanobu in 1965 while on a mountaineering trip to Japan.

She reached Everest on May 16, 1975 as the leader of the All Female climbing  Party. In 1992, she became the first woman to complete the "Seven Summits", which reached the highest peaks of seven continents. Junko Tabei Death died on 20 October 2016 due to stomach cancer. She was 77 years old. She continued climbing even during the treatment of cancer.
