Google remembers Dr  Kleber, who specializes in getting rid of drug addiction

Today Google has created a special doodle to remember psychiatrist doctor Herbert David Kleber, who was believed to be an expert in getting rid of drug addiction. He saw addiction as a medical condition rather than a moral failure. Google has made doodles  because 23 years ago today, he was elected a member of the National Academy of Medicine.

He was born on June 19, 1934 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Dr. Kleber studied medicine at Dartmouth College, where he discovered he had an interest in psychology. He helped people get rid of drug addiction for three years, but later realized that a new scientific research was needed for such treatment.

Dr. Kleber established the National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse, and a Department for Substance Abuse at Columbia University.

Where he worked on a number of projects on developing new methods for treating addicts such as alcohol, cocaine, heroin and alcohol. Dr. Kleber passed away on October 5, 2018.
