Earth Science Concepts
Science is a vigorous, an aggrandizing epitome of material, erudition, which integument the current sphere of knowledge. Basically, science means having the knowledge of reason, fact and logic about all the process, phenomenon and matter around us. Science have its many branches on the basis of its vast dimensions of the universe. Earth science is also a branch of science like other branches i.e. physical science and life science
Earth science is concerned with the branch of science which deals with the study of earth, the matter from which it is composed of and its surrounding bodies. Moreover, it includes, gathering the information about composition and process of existence of solid rocks and minerals on it, water and the gases. Therefor we can conclude that scientific aspect of earth science is the study of its four spheres i.e. the lithosphere, the hydrosphere, the atmosphere and also some celestial bodies.
Need of Earth science
Now you know that what is earth science and aspect with which it deals but here the question may arise that why ‘do we need to study about earth and its related bodies’?
Here, the answer of this question is simple that earth is the habitat of human kind---and only habitat for the foreseeable future---and in order order to ensure that it continues to be a great space for the survival, we need to understand how it works. Other than this there are also some significant aspects for the study of earth: -
· We can study the hard rocks, minerals and the fossils to understand the evolutionary history of our environment and living organism or life within it.
· We depend on the earth for its valuable resources such as soil, water, metal, minerals and energy therefore we need to know the benefits of these resources for life and its sustainable use.
· We can learn how and why climate has changed naturally in the past, and use that knowledge to understand both natural and and human caused climate change.
· We can gather the information about planets and other solar system bodies i.e. sun, moon and stars which show the rationality for many significant phenomena related life on earth.
Basic Principals of Earth Science
Earth is the only planet in our solar system where life exist. the nature of the earth and its complex phenomena makes the human being curious to know more about the earth. this eager of men kind leads us to know more about the versatile features, components and science behind the earth which emerge the filed EARTH SCIENCE. Our earth has different tropic level, terrestrial lands, mountain peaks, Iceland, molten lava, climate zones, atmospheric layers and celestial bodies around it. Now the study of these distinct region, its formation and the significant process related to it divide the field of earth science into many disciplines.
As earth has so many aspects to discover, to know and to study. therefore, the scientist has divided the field of earth science into the following disciplines: -
Geology and Environmental Science
“Geo” means earth and logy means study therefore geology refer to the study of earth. This discipline or branch of earth science deals with the study of origin of earth ,its components, structure and composition . Geology explains the characteristics of all the materials or substances which are found on the earth’s crust and historic events of their formation.
Geologist and geology provide the information relevant data related to the rocks, minerals , land ,mountains, tropic and subtropical region, volcanoes, fuels , atmosphere, natural phenomenon and climate changes on earth .
The science of geology also enlightens us with events due which there is continues changes in many life processes on the earth. It also comprises the study which is use to relate or compare the characteristics of new life form on the earth with the previous life form of history or beginning of the earth.
Meteorology: Science of the Atmosphere
The observation of some variables of earth atmosphere play a significance role in the study area under meteorology. These variables are Temperature, air pressure, water vapour or humidity etc. The value of these variable and the rate of change (relative to the Time and Distance) are useful to the certain point for the determination of the weather and climate . this branch also concerned with the analyses of all the physical process and its associated sphere of earth i.e Hydroshphere nd Lithosphrere.
Oceanography: Science of the Oceans
Why is Oceanography is ImportantThe oceanographer focus on the investigation of all the facts and process linked to the seas and oceans as these facts and process provide the helpful data to interpret ate the cause behind various phenomenon inside or outside the ocean .some of the phenomenon are tsunami,waterspout,bio luminescence,convergence and formation of tidal waves etc.
Astronomy: Science of the Universe
At present the earth is only planet where life can exist in its all form. astronomy suggests that the reason behind the existence of life on the earth is directly related to various phenomenon performed by the bodies or elements in outer space. These bodies can be sun, moon, star, planets, comets etc. and the phenomenon are motion of earth and moon and planets, whether or climate changes, rise in sea level, change in earth temperature etc.
